Everybody I know with an EcoBoost, myself included (in my car), can easily get EPA fuel economy if they drive like a sane person. Now... it is a VERY fun motor, and tempting to race around in. At that point, fuel economy will suffer.
Really, the EcoBoost's torque curve makes it an ideal towing motor. It pulls hard down-low like a diesel, but has all the extra top-end power you need for passing.
