Didn't read five pages...just the OP's first and last couple
Has anyone ask how long the OP plans on keeping this CUV or maybe SUV ?
Note many/most CUVs will have the OEM recommend to *NOT* use a WD Hitch
system. Take note of that vs the receiver. As receivers have two
ratings. Dead weight and WD Hitch weight
Most all vehicles 'can tow' something. Most all have a MTWR too (Max Tow Weight Rating),
but that is the marketing rating based on a 'curb' or 'stripper' model wit no
options except for the towing option
Even a half ton 'can' tow the Space Shuttle... :R
My recommendation is to stick to what the true MTWR is and that is after
taking the TV out fully loaded, ready to go RV'ing...and weigh it. Axle by axle
Then take that weight and subtract it from the GCWR. The formula looks like this:
Pat attention to the other ratings. Like the axle ratings
Asking how long plan on keeping it because a lot depends on how much
it has to either struggle towing, or towing within it's TRUE MTWR
'Wearing it out' is really what I'm asking. If not going to keep it long,
then the OP will be passing that to the next owner. If keeping it a
long time, then pay attention to the OEM ratings.
On that, decide if you believe in the OEM ratings or not. If not, then
do whatever. If yes, then follow the OEM 'true' ratings (not
marketing ratings)
Since car attributes are high on the have to have, then compromises
on the trailer side
