Excellent. I agree, it does make a difference.

If the "nightstands" are above the pass-through compartment, why not just insulate the ceiling of that compartment? There will still be some heat transfer through the (very thin) front wall, but it should help.
When you get home, don't forget to seal around any electrical outlets you may have in that area as the cold really works though those things.

You got me thinking about this today, so I opened up the drawer on one of the nightstands and took a look. Decided, "what the heck", and insulated the back and two sides (one side really wasn't necessary as it is adjacent to an interior surface but it made me "feel better" doing it). Then I insulated the bottom with 1" foam (now, with the one inch I have in the ceiling of the pass through, I have two inches in this one small area). Probably won't make any noticeable difference, but I had the foam and the time.
Since there is lots of depth in there, I think I will make the drawers (one on each side) about 50% deeper too....this will take more time.
