Upgrade screen door latch?

Like the youtube idea with magnets, but I have all aluminium, they don't stick. I noticed on the video there was some kind of tape under the magnets, ???

Thats funny-grandchildren-I dunno, got one who'll turn teenager here shortly. Dont think Ive ever so much as raised my voice to either of em-(unlike my boys growing up) even though they keep breaking my schtuff.
But as to the door-if you had a latch that stood up, more substantial, might the door itself be more subject to damage?

wnjj, I now need something that can stand up to grand children. With the wife and I, 6 years of service. With grand kids, one weekend and failure.

Over 6 years for plastic door hardware seems pretty decent. For the little effort it takes to replace it, why bother improving it?

Here's Trimarks METAL screen door latch replacement. But from the diagram it still uses a plastic striker. The homemade one i mentioned about the 'whole' thing was made of metal.

Do a search there was a forum member a month or so ago that was fed up with the cheap plastic screen door latches and came up with what really is an easy fix.

He took the latch and traced it on some sort of airplane metal. Of course I don't think it has to be airplane metal but any think lightweight metal would do. His post showed the DIY. Sounded pretty simple. I asked him to patent it and start selling them to us! :B

Just this weekend I did that mod with the magnets, work great.
