Back in the 90's my father bought a new Honda Accord because CR said it was the best, and at around the same time he bought a used Dodge Dynasty because it was cheap. The Dodge ran well for 150,000 miles until it was totaled in a wreck. The Honda needed a new transmission and new AC before 70,000 miles.
I have owned many Ford, GM, and Chrysler vehicles, and the Chryslers have been the most reliable, even though the CR crowd will never believe me. But, who really cares anyway? My biggest gripe with CR is that they will give a Camaro a low rating because the visibility is bad, and give a Corvette a bad rating because it rides rough. And, some years ago, they rated the Toyota Matrix high and the Pontiac Vibe low, even though they are exactly the same car. No, I do not have the month and date and issue number, but it does not matter anyway because the CR crowd would not believe it even if I did.
I do remember reading the issue where the Ram HD was given a low rating due to a rough ride. I guess according to CR, everyone in the world just needs to buy a Camry.
As already pointed out Toyota's and Honda's have trouble and bad reviews too. Your Father got a bad one. I'd really like to know where you are looking for your info though. The Pontiac Vibe gets good reviews from CR and is gets their recommendation for the years 2006-2009(same as the Toyota Matrix). Just google it.
