Use of Honda generator in an enclosed generator compartment

I am considering a truck camper that has a large generator compartment. I would prefer a Honda over the LP Onan option that exists in most TC's.

Has anyone replaced their Onan with a Honda or other brand? Can they operate within the compartment? Or do they require to be operated in an open space?

Clearly there are conveniences that come with the Onan, but I plan to boondock frequently and expect to use the generator 8 plus hours per day depending on the temperature. Access to gasoline will be easier than propane and quieter to operate I believe.

Welcome any pros and cons on both.

Thanks!

  • I am thinking the same thing. I have a compartment with Onan 2500LP and I am sick of this thing being broken, so am thinking to replace with a Honda. Anyone done this?
  • “and expect to use the generator 8 plus hours per day depending on the temperature”

Eight hours a day? What about solar? Your batteries sound inadequate. Please don’t camp near me.
  • Look at any Generator you may be getting to ensure there is enough of a pipe nipple sticking out to get a hose or flex pipe installed to move the exhaust away from the camper. Also consider the direction it will be facing with the unit sitting in the space you anticipate installing it in.
  • With plenty of ventilation it'd be fine. This forum is for technical support with the forum itself.
