A) I have heard from folks who like to dial their controller up while on the freeway so it reacts more strongly to sudden requests for braking.
B) I always give mine a little pinch to test it right as we're leaving home or a CG.
C) As others have suggested, a little manual braking from the TT alone can help straighten out and stabilize your whole rig. I'm having a hard time convincing my DW that if things get really hairy our Ford's automatic stability program will kick in and she doesn't have to have 2 hands on the steering wheel in that situation (and by reaching down with one hand to tweak the trailer is more likely to keep it from escalating to that point).
