V8 4Runner + 19 foot TT (Four Winds Breeze) towable??

I've got a 2006 Toyota 4Runner Sport V8. The manual says towing capacity is 7000lbs and a 700lb hitch weight. I would be using an Equilizer hitch and a Prodigy brake controller.

I just checked out a Four Winds Breeze 191RD that looks amazing. The unloaded vehicle weight is ~3900lbs and the GVCW is 7000. Tanks full and carrying all my stuff I never expect to be above 4600-4800 pounds total. The trailer is 19 feet and about 22.5 bumper to hitch.

On the 4Runner forums I see people towing 23+ foot trailers but it seems uncommon. Is this 19 foot doable with a proper weight distributing hitch and brake controller or do I need to look at something smaller?

Thanks.

(PS - Anyone have any experience or thoughts on the Four Winds Breeze? It's a 2011 and looks mint.)

  • Easy! 04 V8 4Runner WDH, sway control, LT tires, Starcraft 23SRB trailer, Prodigy controller.

    Tips:

    1. Prodigy has a custom cable to plug into 4Runner plug under the dash- may need "Tacoma" cable.

    2. LT tires instead of P tires. Just do it, you'll never look back!

    3. Weight Distribution Hitch- Absolutely! Be sure to adjust WDH using tape measure, per instructions.

If you don't use WDH, front end can get light and inadvertently trigger ABS/VSC on wet/slippery roads going downhill and heavy on the tongue. (Utility trailer, scares the******out of you when it takes off across road into other lane!)

You may notice more wind drag than weight issues when towing. These are very capable vehicles.
  • 4k lbs dry will weigh in around 5200lbs ready to travel with a proper loaded tongue weight around 680lbs. I don`t see a problem!
  • I have an '08 4Runner V8 with factory tow option. My TT is 24 ft. ball to bumper and hits the scale at 5100# loaded for travel (including food and water). That said, I have no problem towing or accelerating onto the Interstate.

As someone who has pulled a 25 foot trailer with your same vehicle-you will have no problems! Have fun!

I am waiting for guys to tell you need a 3/4ton truck! LOL!
  • I pulled a 2007 Airstream CCD Bambi 19ft 2in. Hitch 530lbs UBW 3600 GVWR 4500 with a 2012 4 Runner 6 cyl. Not bad to pull or stop.
  • If that is correct then wehn you get it take it to a truckstop scale and weigh it. That will tell you ety wt and then put your stuff in, add water and weigh again.
