Michigan's yearly vehicle registration renewal (license plates) is cheap and there's NO personal property taxes or any other yearly taxes or fees on vehicles other than the one time 6% sales tax on the actual price paid when purchasing it. For non commercially used trailers, 5th wheels, etc there's a ONE TIME very reasonable license fee good for as long as you own it. No yearly renewals ever. Our ONE TIME when purchased never expiring license tag for the Carriage 5th wheel was $200 and $200 for the Sunline Solaris travel trailer and $100 for the boat trailer and zero for the Lance TC as no license tags ever required.
$1285 fee in SC for a one year renewal is beyond INSANE! What a ripoff! That same $1285 would pay for both our tow vehicle's yearly registrations and both vehicle's full coverage insurance in full for the entire year here in West Michigan and still have enough left over to take my wife out to a very fine classy dinner venue including a couple drinks each and cover the nice tip and sales tax too.
