I could not wade thru all the posts. Folks are taking a narrow field of vision and looking sat one thing on taxation and not the big picture.
So how is the cost of living in SC on a comparative basis.
A question that might come from someone with a background in performance improvement or analysis, Dave. Kiplinger's puts South Carolina toward the top of their list for retirees, but I have to balance that with personal experience. Over the past 40+ years (I don't count the time I spent living under my parents' roof), I have lived in New Mexico, Colorado, Texas (three or four different places and times), Georgia (two different places at two different times) and now South Carolina for the past four years. Although we moved here from Georgia, the move was less than ten miles. We found housing and food to be comparable, gas and diesel cheaper, but taxes much higher. I'm trying to talk my wife into selling the house, moving up to a bigger fifth wheel, and becoming moving targets next year. If she comes around, Texas (via Escapees) is most likely our next state of residence. Texas also has the added advantage of not having a state income tax (SC has state income tax and only gives a partial break to retirees).
