Vehicle/Travel Trailer Compatibility

Greetings!

New to this site today.

We are getting rather tired of the tent camping scene.
Contemplating a transition into a small travel trailer with a higher mpg tow vehicle...

In your opinion, can a 2015 Jeep Cherokee V6 with tow pkg and a 4500 lb tow rating safely pull a Travel Lite i18 Cobblestone travel trailer with a 2945 dry weight?

  • Towing a high profile box will not get you great, good or fair mileage.

If you want good to decent MPG's, stay with a tent trailer or large tent.

While towing with any of the 4 tow vehicles i had towing travel trainers and 5th wheel trailer, the BEST MPG I ever got is with a 2500HD Chev with 8.1 engine towing 9300 lbs. I towed at 58-59 mph (right above o/d). Averaged 9.3 mpg. I did, on a couple trips with good tailwinds - avg 11.0 mph. But you'l pay for it when you hit headwinds - 6.0.

FYI - trailer tires are max rated at 65-mph, then they disintegrate.:B

If you want to tow a trailer, get a tow vehicle and accept the lower MPG. If you want grocery-getter - get a Prius.
  • Theres no such thing as a high MPG tow rig and a V6 Jeep pulling 4000 pounds is certainly not even close. Probably get 5 to 8 MPG with this combo if your lucky and have a tail wind.
