ventilating window replacing non

I'm looking into replacing the window on my giant rear cargo door with one that slides or cranks open to ventilate the rear bunk area. Every one of the four bunks back there has an ajacent window except this one and it creates a stale, stuffy spot for the person who sleeps there. I find out this is the main reason my son has taken over the dinette for sleeping. I don't have a problem with his preference occasionally, but on a regular basis it interrupts the flow of day when he holds up the rest of us who need the table to eat and move on to other activities.

Anybody have a resource for a window that would be a direct replacement? On quick measurement (without removing to measure the rough opening) it appears to be about 13 1/2" x 22 1/2" with radiused corners. I've searched a little but haven't found anything that comes close yet. Thanks!
  • These windows might not be safe replacements for an "escape" window. However, I recently saw a new trailer with screened escape windows which were still hinged on top but had a lever to tilt out the bottom. I forgot the trailer brand, but maybe somebody else knows it?

Until I can locate a suitable replacement, I use a paint mixing stick to prop the window open and a car window shade screen to keep out the bugs.
  • I mananged to come up with several possible mfg'ers but so far haven't found one that is a direct replacement. Definately crank out, no slider. I took apart the OEM one and it just a frame and a piece of glass held in place by a couple plastic nibs. It sure fits the hole tightly, though! I think I'm on the right track at least, thanks for the input. The one on Ebay is close.
  • I'd would look at the old window and at one of the corners in the glass you should see (maybe very small and hard to see tiny print) the maker of the glass and some other numbers. Those numbers will help you get the same tinting and color at a rv glass place, but with openings like you want. You also might see the manufacture of the frame of the window or window frame. Most window manufactures make their window frames common sizes the rv builder decides to put it, full glass, or partial glass, with or without sliders and which way sliders go.

You might find many replacements after you have what exact numbers you need. RV dealers or on-line, but don't buy until you know exactly what you need for a replacement. One of the biggest suppliers is Hehr.

Replacing a window "complete" is easy and many youtubes on it. But getting the frame with sliders that you want might be harder.
