They than put a fan on the back of the refreg to move air in the bottom vent and out the top vent when the cabinet gets warmed up. Yes they can make fan noise, but nothing you shouldn't be able to live with. See if the fan is not hitting on something. I have found if you open the lower vent, than use a digital camera to take pictures facing up you should be able to see the fan and if its hitting anything.
