More BS! Transportation Secretary Federico F. Pena was the secretary from 1993 till 1997. The date of your posted info is October 1, 1994 and that's 19 years ago and the investigation had gone on for 2 years before that in reference to the 1973-1975 pickups. Read the secretary's several full reports! The DOT dropped the recall efforts in December 1994. The case went to state courts. Nearly all the verdicts against GM were overturned. There was NO recall and GM settled with the DOT on December 2, 1994 and agreed to fund $51.335 million in safety programs. The fuel tank case is CLOSED!
No more firey deaths reported until the 5 in a violent crash high speed side crash on a 1974 very rusty truck. The truck was 25 years old! Read the accident report! It states that any other pickup in a similar violent high speed side crash would likey experienced a ruptured fuel tank also. The burned truck was hit so hard that the doors on either side were less than 2 feet apart. Eye witnesses stated the vehicle which hit the GM pickup was traveling faster than 60 MPH and failed to stop or slow down for the intersection's red traffic light. Even if the pickup hadn't burned, due to the violent nature of the crash, the 5 people crammed inside the cab would have been fatalities. It's in black and white but I doubt the Chrysler/Dodge/Ram boys can even barely or not at all from what I've seen in my over 7 years on this forum! They certainly know how to and do parse and cherry pick the links/articles they choose to post so only a mislead part of the whole story is posted. Shame!
