While they were able to develop space travel thousands of years ago by folding the space/time continuum using nothing more than their superior intellect, they never mastered the mechanical skills necessary to open bags of kibble, and cans of soft food by themselves (no thumbs), so they located and conquered the human race.
And here were are, happily doing their bidding to this day.
