For this video I had a GoPro 4 silver with a suction mount to the high center of the windshield. For audio, I plugged a ROLAND stereo lapel microphone into the GoPro then clipped the R-L mics to either side of my visor for better sound. The second camera is my Samsung Galaxy S7 which I use for wandering video where the point of interest is. It works well between the two perspectives each camera presents. To time align the two videos, I get them both going then I clap hands to create an audio spike. I line up the two spikes and both videos are in sync. The editing software I use is Cyberlink Power Director Suite, whatever the latest version number is. I'm happy enough with it. There is also Corel, Pinnacle, and others that are similar. I will be upgrading my EOS 5D first generation to the new EOS 5D MARK VI that does video.

I really hope your passenger was running the cameras...

The GoPro is mounted to the windshield, set it forget it. As you can see in the video, there is virtually no traffic and I'm going slow. There was a logging truck which I was stopped for and one other vehicle. I had the road pretty much to myself. The cellphone has an easy to see large screen so I never have to take eyes off the road to kind of see what I'm recording. I mostly point the camera in the general direction of what I'm trying to record and hope for catching the subject matter. But yeah, if you want to play detective, you shouldn't be videoing while driving.

Not trying to play detective... I just see too many people of all ages and driving experiences with various devices in their hands. It was a really nice video!

Thank you, glad you enjoyed the video. That is the aim, to make something worthy of your time.
You are right though, drivers should not be driving distracted.
I will say though, this was a planned route, and I'm familiar with the road's traffic conditions. I had the sunny, blue sky day presenting the opportunity to do this video that weather conditions had prevented in the past so I took it. I can see clouds heading in from the west while taking a break. It does tend to rain in these parts.

The Hero 6 is a big improvement. It's a very wide angle only camera which makes it useful for close quarters and panoramic video. To make it easy, get these accessories. Extra battery and dual charger, clear case for protection, a frame holder so you can mount accessories to it, a small flexible tripod, suction mount, gopro has a different system to mount, get several mount extensions for positioning the camera.
Once you start looming at the system, you'll see how it works. I find it to be a very useful camera for documenting construction work but also works as a play thing.
