I remember you and your little beloved Road Runner. I hope you found it a good home !!
You should be able to find a metal box of some kind to set in a little ways in front of the furnace to act as a deflector and force the air to blow sideways or a different direction. A little ingenuity on your part and I'll bet you come up with something. Maybe even something as simple as a cookie sheet leaning against a frying pan or something like that . lol
