Not surprised by the 1400 number. I had a 76 toyota that was about 2500 with 1500 or so lbs of payload. Could out haul any of the current 15 series truck of that time frame wt wise. Hence why when I sold/traded it in, needing more bed volume, I jumped straight to a 2500 GMC.
As far as finding specs for your current rig. "IF" you look in the yellow pages assuming they still exist for your area, look up auto springs or equal and see if some listings come up. Otherwise, something like JC Whitney might be an option. Surprising what old vehicle stuff they have. If a spring place is close by, they can measure the distance from bolt to bolt, thickness of ea spring, width etc and come up with an appropriate spring pack. It would also not surprise me if they could not come up with a stronger capacity spring pack, along with keeping your truck a lo-pro if that is your wish! AMazing what some of these folks can do frankly.
