Yep the Rotary Pickup (or REPU as Mazda enthusiasts like to call it) weighed in at 2,720 lbs and had/has a payload capacity of 1,400 lbs. It was the most powerful mini truck on the market in '74 and '75 but by '76 their popularity had caught on and the 4 cylinder engines increased in size, power, and fuel economy.
The high payload capacity explains the harsh ride, which is why most owners removed a leaf from the rear unless they were actually hauling that weight regularly. I'm not even sure what you'd haul that weighs 1,400 lbs aside from maybe a load of paving bricks, cinder blocks, or crushed stone.
