Vinyl or cloth sofa?

I know this is a silly question, as it's all about personal preference, but I'm trying to decide whether I want the vinyl or cloth dinette/sofa upholstery in my next trailer.

The vinyl option gives the trailer a more upscale look and will be easier to clean, but the cloth upholstery will probably wear better (no cracking) and for whatever reason, is significantly less expensive. For me, if I can get the cloth option for several thousand dollars less, it's a no brainer.

You'll have to scroll the pictures in each link to see the sofa's. All opinions are welcomed!! :)

  • We had kids but no pets. Cloth held up just fine. Agree with other replies to your post about vinyl being sticky in hot or humid weather. Good luck on your decision.
  • We chose the light vinyl over the fabric on our Bullet. We've found that the back cushions are uncomfortable and have removed them. Large bed pillows work better for us. It's much easier to lay down on the loveseat with those thick back cushions out of the way...
  • My personal preference is always fabric rather than vinyl, although I shocked DH when I picked our leather couch several years ago....totally NOT me. I like the feel of fabric better, seems cooler. The kids/pets question is certainly valid unless the kids are now older and know better than to take the grape koolaid to the sofa. Pets can do damage to either with those pesky toenails. Leather doesn't scratch as much as vinyl, but the sofa is likely vinyl. If the fabric is a tight weave you're good, loose weave gotta watch those toenails again. Everything being equal, I like fabric best.
  • My cushions have vinyl on one side and cloth on the other. I have kids and dogs. I use the vinyl side up.
  • Cloth over vinyl. Vinyl doesn't breath and becomes very uncomfortable, if your wearing shorts your legs stick to the vinyl. After the first use you would probably wind up putting a blanket or something over it.

Cloth that is treated with Scotch guard will repel all but the biggest of spills and makes cleaning easier. It use Scotch guard on cloth seats in my vehicles, from day one and reapply every 12 months or so and the seats still look good.
