Maybe he was thinking of Fiat when they were selling the X-19 in the States and FIAT was thought to be shorthand for "Fix It Again Tony" ? :h
Anyway, from what I have read of them, VM Motori is no slouch in the production/development of cutting edge diesel engines and diesel technology.
More than a couple companies out there have improved on Rudolph Diesel's "baby".
