Volunteer needed - Trip report sticky

Hi guys,

As you probably know I have been maintaining the Trip Reports sticky thread for a couple of years, since taking it over from Silversand and re-organising it.

However, I live outside the US, and my access to these forums is reducing.

Hence, while I still have access (at least via Woodalls), I would like to hand over the reigns to someone else to keep the sticky up to date.

Trip report sticky...

Let me know if you are interested in volunteering.

Steve.
  • Steve, when you get back from your vacation, send me a pm. I think I'll be able to take over the lead on the TR sticky for at least a couple of years.

    Thanks guys,

I hope to continue posting my own trip reports while I can. But I have to now use Woodalls rather than rv.net. RV.net web admins blocked access from non-US IP addresses last year. They confirmed this to me, but I forgot to ask why. Maybe some foreign-based hacking attack occurred so they decided to close foreign access to reduce future risk. I wouldn't be surprised if my access via other portals slowly goes the same way - so I thought I should look for someone to take control of the trip reports thread before that happens.

Admins can give you rights to create a sticky and take an old one down. This is what they did when I took over - Silversand ran the initial trip reports sticky for years and passed it onto me. At which point he sent me the Word documents with the last edit of the sticky for me to post myself to make the new one. I can ask Silversand to remind me what the process was once we get to a point of handover.

Anyway, I'm currently lying on the overcab bed in a campsite in Oslo, Norway, so I should probably get back to some vacation stuff (PS - turns out Norway is quite a long drive from London). I'll try to put together a trip report and maybe a video once back. And I'll get back to discussing the trip report sticky ownership once back in the UK too.

    Cheers,

    Steve.

Steve, I didn't know that you where having those type of access problems. Now I understand as to why some recent TCTR have gone into cyber space instead if into the TR stickies.

I sure hope that doesn't happen, Steve. I really enjoy hearing from TCers in other parts of the world. And thank you for managing the Trip Reports sticky! I'm glad to hear you've got some volunteers waiting in the wings, just in case.
  • I should probably say - it is really quite easy to maintain - but it does mean checking rv.net for new trip reports every few days so as not to miss new ones, and copying the URL into the Word document in the right place. Then about once per quarter editing the relevant sections of the sticky and doing a cut and paste into them from the latest copy of your Word document.

Obviously I'll explain the technique in full to volunteer(s) at the appropriate time.

    Steve.

Or 3? Maybe I could help.

  • How would the transfer work? Can the admins just change the posting author to the new one or would all of the post text need to be captured and reposted?

I could possibly do it until I retire which would be a max of 3 years, but would have to think about it for a couple of days before I could commit.

    P.S.
You have done a great job and I would hate to see it disappear or go stagnant.
  • Thats too bad. You've done an excellent job, not to mention your terrific trip reports of your own travels. We will not run across the likes of you again soon.
