Wonder if VW can retrofit a urea injection system into the exhaust?
They came up with a gear driven oil pump to replace the wonky chain driven one in my 2005 Passat TDI, so they do have a history of complex engineering retrofits.
EDIT: But I had to buy that retrofit and pay to have it installed, ~Can$3500. If VW had to pay for something as expensive for 400,000 TDI's ... no, don't think so.
