This is going to hurt the bottom line a bit! So wonder how the fix will affect their fuel mileage and used car prices? LINK The Environmental Protection Agency and California issued a notice of v...

Now who pays for the added cost of the Urea? Who pays for the decrease mileage? Who pays for the loss of resale value.
My Passat TDI goes over 10k on a tank of Urea, now they are saying cut that in half. Who's gonna pay? I certainly didn't get what was being sold. Massive fraud here.
Yes, that means I have to drive to VW every 5000 miles. Then I have to deal with reduced MPGS and performance. Urea is a pain in the arse, even VW spills that junk all over my trunk area. Then of course with the VW's you need a special bottle to connect to their tank at $15 a gallon.
Don't believe what the dealer tells you about having them fill the DEF tank. I've been running Blue DEF in my Touareg for 65,000 miles. Get one of these funnels, and you should be able to do it without spilling. That's 2 1/2 times cheaper than the VW DEF.
"Reduced MPGS and performance"....I'm not sure how that could happen. DEF is injected into the exhaust post-combustion.
I feel your pain on one point, because I'm personally not happy with VW about the resale value thing. My plan is to go until at least 160K if it lasts that long, so it wouldn't be worth much after that anyway. Even though the Touareg is not affected, this is going to kill the market for diesel passenger cars in this country again for a while.
One unrelated thing that I didn't know when buying this car is that after the first 2 years, California requires ANNUAL smog checks for diesel vehicles. Ridiculous. All they seem to do is plug in to check the computer to make sure all the systems are running properly, then VISUALLY inspect for tailpipe smoke. No actual measurements are made of tailpipe emissions. Complete waste of time and money.
