This is why the Chevrolet Volt (and Cadillac ELR) have the gasoline engine. You can take the 300 mile drive and drive on electric.
A coworker had to add gasoline last week to his Volt. It was first time since March. He drives the Volt 20 miles each way to work.
I had a Volt for 6 days. I plugged it in the first night. I put 1800 miles on the Volt in those 6 days. I had 1200 miles in two days. It averaged 40 mpg, using gasoline. And the new Volt is supposed to do better than this.
