wadautink?

I am looking for some advice, I presently own a 2001 jayco qwest 28' fvr, I am towing it with a 2001 Silverado 2500hd, 8.1 gas, allison 6spd. been every where with it, no problems. I have the opportunity to upgrade to 34' nu-wa tri axle.19500gvwr. before I commit, I want to know if I can realistically tow this monster.............thanks

No way you would need an ecco boost for that monster:)

As others have stated, Get a bigger truck...the 01' 2500HD only has a 9200# GVWR and the pin weight of a 19,500 GVW 5er would woefully overload the truck.

...and they make them heavier than the 19,500# also...At the least, you'll need a 1 ton dually.
A dually would give you more stability when towing that heavy of a weight...though not very popular to state as far as some are concerned, but most who have towed with SRW, then DRW trucks will tell you the stability of the tow is improved with a dually.
  • thanks for the replies. 3 yrs from retiring I am planning for a new truck, the gm dually is of course my "dream machine" diesel....... I didn't even know that they made units that heavy, it a very luxurious unit, too bad. APT is right of course it is a five speed, I didn't understand what he meant when he said it couldn't hold a sixth gear, but any ways thanks.
  • I have a 3500 SRW and tow a NUWA 14K 34' 5'vr

NO way would I try to tow that 19.5K 5'vr with my truck.

'Dry weight' on that rig will exceed your tow capacity/payload let alone anything in it ready to go camping

Stay with in YOUR trucks ratings.....that's why you tow current rig with no problems.

Sorry you are looking at 3500 Dually Territory with that 5er. You have nowhere near the payload capacity with a SRW axle, 2500 or 3500.
The 8.1 might do the job pulling it, you ease of towing you are looking at diesel for power. Good excuse to go buy a new Dmax/ Allison 3500 DRW.
  • Could and Should are two Completley different answers. Your truck CAN haul it, but IMHO you shouldnt. Thats alot of work for the truck.
  • Not enough payload for the pin weight and, not enough power for me from the 8.1L. BTW, the Alison in 2001 was only 5-spd, which doesn't matter as it could never hold 6th with the 8.1L anyway.
  • What is your rear axle ratio?

The 8.1L was rated to tow 15,800# with the 4.10 rear axle.
