There are a few of the GMRS channels that are designated as Repeater Pairs. Just because you don't hear anything on a GMRS frequency, doesn't mean that frequency is not in use; it could be the input frequency for one of the repeaters and you could be causing interference even if the repeater is 100 miles away.
