The VM Motori in the RAM is not a new engine but an old one.
My only experience with VM is on test units of a commercial machine to replace the old V4 Wisconsin engine. It was quickly dropped because of the problems we encountered. My friend bought a Jeep Liberty to replace his Ford Ranger which had never been in for repairs. So far his Liberty diesel has cost him more in repairs per year then total costs for the Ranger and the miles are now what the Ranger had when he traded.
