safety chains?
In an accident like this your standard trailer safety chains won't hold up and come right off. Would you want to be chained to the trailer once it went over? - astraelraenExplorerThe video description says I-86 in Idaho, which has a semitruck speed limit of 70mph in most areas and most if not all semitruck's go that speed. The passenger car limit is 80mph. That guy was probably doing 80-85? and got hit by a strong crosswind and/or had a violent push/pull reaction with the wind around the semitrailer.
Speed is the problem. - 69_AvionExplorerI would caution people on thinking a mechanical device is a good way to resolve issues with a trailer that doesn't tow well. My guess is speed and too little tongue weight contributed to the wreck.

If the driver had used the brake controller the trailer brake light should have lit up so I have to assume he never touched the brakes.
Maybe Integrated brakes light up, but my brake controller won't light my brake lights. From eTrailer.com wrote:

Should Vehicle Brake Lights Come On when Using Manual Override on Agility Trailer Brake Controller
Question:
I have used older model brake controllers in the past and when pressing the manual override button on them without a trailer connected my vehicles brake lights would come on without depressing the brake pedal. With this unit they do not come on in this situation. Is this normal or have I wired it wrong in my vehicle?

When using the manual override on a brake controller, including the Hopkins Agility Electric Brake Controller, # HM47295, the vehicle brake lights should not come on. Most modern brake controllers do not activate the vehicle brake lights, though there are some older models that did which must have been what you had.
The way the manual override works is that it bypasses the signal from the brake switch and sends power directly from the controller to the trailer brakes. Brake lights coming on would seem to indicate that something is not wired correctly or there was a short circuit somewhere and/or corrosion on the trailer connector on the vehicle.
On a brake controller, the white wire is ground, the blue wire is electric brake output, the red wire attaches to the cold side of the brake switch, and the black wire is 12 volt power. It sounds like you have the brake controller wired correctly if the vehicle brake lights do not come on with the manual override.

I was thinking the same thing ... kind of makes me wonder if the entire video was staged... an expensive staging... but some people are just idiots! - DutchmenSportExplorer"I would think instead of trashing the operator and providing no real useful information..."
I'll bite!
#1 use weight distribution hitch and bars regardless of the size of your camper and tow vehicle.
#2 use a sway control system (either one built into the WD or a separate add on friction sway bar).
#3 Slow down! You're towing a trailer, not driving on the Indy 500 race track!
#4 Keep tires properly inflated on tow vehicle and trailer
#5 Watch the trailer tail weight that it does not diminish the weight on the tongue (did you notice in the video he had a cargo carrier hanging over the tail end of the camper?).
#6 Tow with a TRUCK ... not a Tonka Toy! Over kill on the size of the truck! Yes .. otherwise... well.... the video shows why! You can never have too much truck.
#7 and did I say ... slow down.. you're towing a trailer, not driving a race car! Because ... you may be OK driving like a nut, but your flipped trailer and truck spinning circles in the road may just be in my path! Sorry, I don't want to die because of your neglect and self-assured egocentricity!
Videos like this just make me boil. It's so stupid folks! Slow down! - RoyBExplorer III also noted the dashcam guy did not stop - just appeared to keep on going...

Roy Ken - 2lazy4UExplorerWhat surprises me is that the guy with the dashcam didn't seem to even slow down. If all that was going on and it were me, I'd be WAY behind him. He appears to have almost been caught in the mess.
