I walk into any deal with the full expectations that if I can't buy the item for a certain price ( that I set myself prior to making my offer) that I will walk out and keep looking. It is a buyers market this time of year and there will be a lot of deals popping up all winter. Always start lower that you will be willing to pay so there is some room for negotiating. You would be surprised how many times I am called after I get home and told they will accept my offer when they realize you really will keep looking. You can do all this without being abusive, just be firm and let them know that you are a man of your word.
I'm just hoping that he'll take the offer just as seriously over thep hone. I really don't want to drive 4 hours just to hear no, honestly i'd even offer him the $1800 sight unseen just to not have to drive so far, lol. I'll tell him that and we'll see maybe he'll call me back in a few weeks when he realizes no one will buy it after all.
