I found a perfect solution for that for myself many years ago.
I do not and will not drink from the onboard tank. Yuk!
I bought a very small water treatment system and installed it into the cold water line under the sink. I went to Home Depot and bought an inexpensive single tap with an adjustable curved outlet. I drilled a hole in my countertop a couple inches away from my regular tap set and installed this spigot there.
Everything is under the counter with only the filtered water tap showing.
It is very convenient as I use this filtered water only for drinking, cooking and making coffee.
