Water heater only luke warm

Hello,
I have done some online searching and was wondering for some advice.
We have a 2010 Jayco 26BH. Runs great with no problems. It was the elec/gas water heater.
We were out this weekend and I started with the electric for the hot water. The next morning I realized it only got luke warm. I then tried the propane and it fired up but did not seem to stay on long. Again, luke warm. It would fire up occasionally throughout the weekend but same results.
To me, a newbie, it appears to be some thermostat issue....or something glaringly obvious I have missed. Any ideas would be helpful. I searched online but seemed to find more posts regarding not lighting. Thanks

  • Also make sure your outside shower valves are both "off." If they're open it'll mix hot and cold water together.
  • Check the same as greende stated had a friend have the same issue and found he had bypass setting wrong. Hope this is the answer for you.
  • Check your bypass valve. If in the wrong position, the cold & hot can mix to make lukewarm. A test would be to open the Pressure relief valve momentarily and see if the water is hotter coming out of it than what you get out of the tap. Careful you don't get burned.
  • ....but, that does make sense. It was the maiden voyage this year. Maybe it isn't fully opened or something. Thanks. Does it sound like a thermostat thing is possible? Is it common to have to replace them?
  • Yeah it seems to be. If it was not, it would stay cold I'm guessing. It get a bit warmer but not great. Its almost as if, when you turn turn the tap on, there is an initial rush of decent hot water and then it is luke warm to cool.
  • Thank you Seahunter. I was hooked up to the post at the site if that matters.
  • I had a similar problem on my 2004 fifth wheel and found my house batteries were dead . Might check your batteries .
