Water pump question

My thing is electrical...not plumbing. If you're ever to the point where you want MY help with plumbing...expect an "Unanticipated water feature".

Anyway.... I have a need to relocate my water pump (just your standard Sureflo) higher than where it is currently sitting. It currently sits at the same level as the fresh water tank's outlet.

Question--
Can I raise the pump roughly 10"? Will it siphon/still draw water if it is above the tank's water level?

  • I believe you should be just fine. My Shurflo sits on top of the fresh water tank. Outlet hose is on the bottom. Hose comes up and around to the pump. Truck camper set up and it works just fine.

Also have one for the wash down pump on my boat. It sits about 3 feet higher than the inlet tube and a good 4 feet from the back of the boat.
  • Is it a self priming pump? I would check with the manufacturer and see what they say.
  • My 10 yr old Shurflo Classic pump is installed 5vr subfloor 4" above top fresh water tank

    YES you can relocate pump.
I think dry prime is 6 feet
