I just bought a Ram 2500 CTD with the Class V hitch. I set up my WD hitch with the reducer, and Im not happy with the "slop". Even though it is the OEM reducer, there is the normal slop between the reducer and the hitch opening. Then, there is the normal slop between the shank and the reducer... Basically nearly "double" the normal slop. When I was raising the trailer up to hook up the bars, there was just too much upward lift due to all the looseness for my liking. I just don't want that much extra moving around if/when I hit a rough road anywhere. So, I am going to replace the Class V with a Class IV hitch with the standard 2 in opening. Yes, another expense, but you've got a big investment already, and it's worth a couple hundred bucks to make it right.
I had too much drop to accommodate a 2.5" shank I searched quite a bit for a 2.5" shank with enough drop for the trunnion style WD hitch. Found one, bought it, but not enough drop. Other one wasn't proper for my hitch.
As far as the WD hitch is concerned, personally, I like as much safety as I can get for a reasonable price. The dealer threw in my WD hitch for free with my purchase, so there ya go. I wouldn't tow without it, but that's me.
