Rear end ratio is in my sig. 4:10....which, in hindsight is overkill, but do all my towing in the mountains, and was what I had gone with before....I too am very eager to tow with this truck, but got it in May, didn't get a picture frame adapter till July and by then, I'd parked my 5er at my camp in WV and cancelled every trip I had planned.
Running empty on trips, running speed limits on Interstate and a tad over....have gotten 17 mpg ....daily driver, depending on traffic, as high 16 and as low as 15.5...which, to me, considering the size of the truck and it's weight, is something I can live with.
Your mileage doesn't sound too bad, especially when you consider it's the 4.10 axle. I will find it interesting to hear how the 3.42 axle is doing for empty mileage. Towing mileage will likely be similar with either axle.
