How do you like the Aisin transmission?NC Hauler wrote:The Aisin is great, although I don't have many mountains around my area of the country to challenge it with. I also don't have much to compare it to like NC does.
but figure I won't get "full gist" of it until I hook up my 16,000# 5er behind it and tow over the same mountains as I did with the 10 and 12'
The best thing about the truck when towing though, is the exhaust brake. It's effect is much more apparent when the truck has a load behind it. Also the tow/haul mode is smart - when using it in conjunction with the exhaust brake, it seems to engage and "anticipate" when the truck slows down better. In a coast down, the tranny shifts down earlier than when not in the tow/haul mode. That coupled with the exhaust brake makes braking and handling when slowing down much more secure.
We just got back from a trip out West that would have made the those 4 mile long, 7 pct downgrades much less stressful (didn't have the Ram at the time).
Agree about the EB...it is one awesome towing tool, and this one, unlike the 10 and 12 model trucks has three choices, 1, no EB at all, 2. orange icon and most aggressive and 3. "Auto brake", works more when in cruise control and not quite as aggressive. I've went down two very long 7% grades with the 5er behind me on the 10 and 12'..On * 26 heading into TN at top of mountain in NC and on I64 from Beckley to Sandstone Falls WV...the EB would slow you to such an extent that you would have to give throttle..used cruise and it really worked great...now that was with the 10 and the 12 and 13 is even better with the Aisin tranny and a three stage EB....again, looking forward to bringing my 5er home with this truck
