Greetings all.Here is a picture of my rig courtesy of google on I84 in the Columbia Gorge.I have a 99 F350 2WD with V10 engine. The tires are almost 6 yearsold. Currently Hankook 265/75/16E which have been good tires.I don't put a lot of miles on the tires as I just use the truck for camping, hauling firewood and other hauling around town. I put about 3k miles per year tops. But its time to think about replacing them.Recently weighed my rig on a camping trip and gotFront 3800Rear 6500Total 10300GVWR on my truck is 9900Front GAWR 4400Rear GAWR 6830When I take my daughter and her stuff camping with me the rear weight goes up right to the max. (6800)How safe is my vehicle? Note: I carried the same camper on my 1990 F250HD for 15 years without mishap.Looking for options on new tires to increase the safety margin.I see that 285/75r16 tires can go up to 3750 lbs but I can't find out what my current rims can handle.I am willing to go to 19.5/vision tires/wheels but what about brake upgrades and spare tire?Suggestions anyone? Thanks for your inputs.

Thanks for your inputs.Get some OE steelies from a 1 ton and the 285 rated at 3750 you'll be all set. That's what we did and have been running Nitto DG for 2 seasons now. Axle can take some extra load, but what is your tires rating?I remember having 7300lb on F250 rear taking some gravel, but I bought Discoverer's tires that had the highest ratings in the size. I had Hancock in 19.5" size on my F450 and after over 80k they still had good tread, but hauling heavy had a blow out, so eventually had to replace the rest of them even with good tread. I remember they were close to 10 years. 6 years is not much for truck tires if they are keep in shade, but check them for cracks and if in doubt, take them to reputable shop for inspection.

I'm with sleepy on this. Too many posts by people that have no RV experience of any kind. They post in every section, claiming to be an expert on every topic, yet there is 0 evidence they have ever owned any RV; no pics, no sig, never at any rallys...really? Post a pic and show us you exist!
I do think a sig adds cred i.e. I am not so sure I value your "advice" about diesel if you have never owned one?!
Or advice about WD hitches if you have never used one...etc, etc..

Just because you put something in the sig line does not me you know anything either. You can snip a picture out of one of those "show us a pic" threads and google "truck camper".

Ownership and intelligence do not directly correlate in some cases.

If I had the OPs rig I would do a careful inspection of my tire for cracks or other blemishes and if they appeared in good shape I would keep them for another year. Because I was under the axle and tire ratings, I would not be concerned even when my daughter came along and pushed me up to but not over the rear limit. As for being over GVWR, I would not be concerned with being 400 -700 lbs over.

And yes, I do have an RV and having many years of experience in the engineering field, have a pretty good understanding of how design limits are set risk management ??

I do have airbags and upper homemade stableloads plus adjustable rancho shocks. I took it to my tire guy a couple months ago and he being very motivated checked them over for cracking. He said they were fine. Probably could go another year. Thanks for everyone's response. Would like to look into a brake upgrade, my tire guy mentioned putting larger discs on the front, any others?

This is true enough , but then intelligence and knowledge do not directly correlate either . It takes many clues to determine whether the advice you receive is sound , the sig line is only one .

You would think that mature men would know that addressing the reply personally to author, while omitting the subject is called trolling.

To answer personal question abut my stable, I did own 40 vehicles in my life, including 9 (or so) RV.
Don't think any intelligent man would like to see the list under each of my replies.
Now back to the topic, I was in the shoes of overloaded F250 owner.
Never hesitated to put the extra 1000, or 2000 lb of gravel for short trip, but even my F250 did hold my TC fine, I was thinking about consequences of blown tire on truck with long rear overhang and high center of gravity.
Sometimes you have to do things danger way, sometimes you take your chances for rare occasion, but than you have to calculate how much your safety and safety of your passengers is worth on the long run.

I guess I'm missing where that is an OEM wheel . I thought all f550 were DRW and 19.5 from the factory . did not see where they gave specs for the wheel except for size and lug pattern . Do you have more info ?

Are the 285 sidewalls a lot stiffer than the 265's, any mushyness
at full load?

Edit: Never mind my rims are 7" and 285's spec 7.5"+ plus they may rub on the fronts of my 2wd.
