I drove three hours (after talking to owner) to look at a 2003 trailer a few years ago. Owner talked up the trailer and the pics on craigslist looked really good.
In person, the trailer was a mess. The pics were actually a couple years old, and the owner had not been maintaining the trailer at all. Soft spots all over the place he didn't think were a big deal among other several red flags.
I wouldn't trust ebay protection to cover you if you buy someone's junk. They are a multi-billion dollar company with high paid lawyers who's only job is to protect them, not you.
