western hauler type bed
What is the purpose of the dovetail at the back of a western hauler type bed? Is it just for looks, or is there a functional purpose to it?

Bed sloped down at the very back of the truck bed, downhill on a slope seems like a good reason, but if it was necessary I would think a regular truck bed would hit really easily.
