He just signed the papers on a 2016 F-250 with the 6.2.. it has 12K on it, and is certified,which means he has a warranty that will last till April of 2020 or 48k and a drivetrain warranty of 7 year/100K... paid 32K

So both stock out here in the west at a mere 8000 ft in the mountains the 385hp is more like 285hp and the 430tq is 330tq. The 7.3 will still be 235hp and 500tq.

Anyone who still has a bone stock 7.3 has no idea what they are missing with easy mods. A simple 16 position shift on the fly chip, turbo wheel like Riffraf or WW3 and a larger exhaust and it is a totally different truck. All that for ~$900-1000
I tow with the 80 hp tune and get about 100hp out of it with supporting mods. So that's about 335hp and almost 720tq sea level or 8000 ft. Push of a button, high idle, whisper mode, no start, valet mode, stock, 30hp, 50hp, 80hp, 100hp 120 hp 140hp (for forged rods) and most power levels in street or tow mode.

But still hooked to a marginal 4 spd tranny, right? If you're going to turn it up that much I'd think you'd have to sink some money into the tranny too if you want to make it very far.

I recently traded our 15' F250 4x4 CC 6.2 & 3:73's for a 16' F350 4x4 Crew, Diesel Dually. We used
the F250 to tow our 8500lb Arctic Fox 26x. The F250 & Arctic Fox was a perfect match.
Never did I feel the 6.2 F250 wasn't up to the task of handling the Arctic Fox.
We traded the F250 for the F350 Dually because we're going back to another Truck camper, a Lance 975.

Can't use cruise control because the transmission downshifts? How do you guys drive through town? My truck shifts four times every time I take off. We towed our 10,440 lb Jayco Eagle 5th wheel with our Hemi powered 2500HD Ram. Used cruise regularly.

Your experience is typical.
Yes diesel cost more when you initially buy it and they are worth significantly more than the gas model when it's time to sell.
There is no significant gas vs. diesel maintenance issue

OK, I know this is may not be apples to apples to your situation and Ford vs. GMC but I had a 2009 GMC 2500 HD 6.0l gasser and towed from Kansas to California coast and back in the summer of 2012. This truck down shifted every 10 miles and really struggled. I hated the entire tow experience. I could never use the cruise control and drove 3000 miles with my right foot. A truly painful experience. This is towing 10,500 lb fiver.
