You get a 12,300 GVWR with the latest Ram 3500 SRW 4x4 CTD 8' bed. I'd recommend adding the Aisin. You can tow or haul a whole lot. 15k of tire capacity and an 11.5"AAM rear rend.
Is that the 300mm rear axle?
Thtat was what I was looking at (though maybe the short bed) as it seems like I would be able to carry a decent TC and tow nearly any TT. If I got the LB I could handle a big fifth wheel but I would lose some maneuverability esp off road, so I was thinking SB.
So I'd have to upgrade the tires from OEM - what kind would I be looking for? And would I still get the factory rear air suspension option?
No, I believe the SRWs have the 292mm rear end, which is the same as Chevy and bigger than Ford. 300mm is just for the Aisin dually's.
the 6.4" bed trucks are the same exact specs as the long bed trucks (axles etc) except I believe they are limited to 11,500 GVWR.
I've heard good things about air ride, if you're often towing it's probably worth the outlay but not essential.
You don't need to upgrade the tires from OEM as far as I know. E range and I think they're rated at 3750 lbs each, and that gives you a tire restricted GVWR of 15k, 2,700 more than the official GVWR. Check the sidewall though to be sure.
But for off road tires that are good on road I'd recommend Nitto Terra Grapplers. Superb and in range E a high weight rating.
