Some additional information on the Kia Sedona 2008: The equivalent 2008 Kia Grand Carnival, marketed in Australia, has the identical specifications (engine, transmission, gear ratio, weight, etc) as the Sedona, however, with a towing capacity of 2000 kg (4400 lbs), as compared with a 3500 lbs rating for the Sedona (North America). This situation still holds for the 2015 Sedona and G.C. vehicles.
When researching the towing capacity of the 2008 Sedona, I inquired about the reason for this difference to Kia Australia, Kia N.A. and Korea with no explanation ever received. I was assured by Kia Australia that this is the accurate capacity and they were unable to identify any difference between the Sedona and G.C.
My view is that these capacity ratings are governed by local regulations according vehicle class and also influenced (to a degree) by marketing interests.
I have owned the 2008 Sedona for six years towing the Fleetwood Arcadia fold-down (unloaded weight 3075 lbs, loaded 3500-3700 lbs). I use a w.d. hitch, but no air bags. I have had no concerns at all with this configuration.
Best. wishes.
