What did your previous vehicle cost you?

I recently sold my 2005 F250 and wanted to see what the vehicle actually cost me, so I added up purchase price, upgrades, service, repairs, wear items, insurance and registration then subtracted the selling price. The only other expenses I had was fuel which I kept out of the calculations. I figured this was cost for me to own the vehicle with depreciation (purchased new) and came up with $325 month. Does anyone else do this or am I the only one?

  • I haven't figured it out per month, but I've done that on previous vehicles. It really doesn't tell you anything other than vehicles are dang expensive. You'd have to have another vehicle at the same time to have any kind of comparison, and even then you're probably looking at apples to oranges (unless you had two tow vehicles, or two vehicles service the same general purpose, etc). It's still fun to do though.
  • I don't want to know...It's my daily driver too.
It's a tool that I have to have, not a luxury. So what it costs me doesn't matter.
