The late model GM pickups are far removed from those of the eighties and nineties which some have mentioned. Having said that, I felt like I was near the max with my 2012 Silverado 1500 towing 7,500 pounds. . .
I’ve seen people towing TT’s in the neighborhood of 27 or 28 feet with a half-ton. I’ve found a 26-foot TT floor plan that looks like it would work for us. I’m not sure I could tow it.
My truck is rated to tow 10,000 pounds. The problem is that the truck’s Carrying Capacity is only 1440 pounds.
If I could tow a TT with a GVWR of about 7500 – 7700 pounds, I would be satisfied. But the 13% tongue weight of about 1000 pounds is probably too heavy for the Carrying Capacity, once I add weight of WD hitch, driver, and passenger.
What TT did you tow with your 2012 1500? Do you remember what the Carrying Capacity listed on the sticker was for your truck?
What kind of improvements might I add to get a little better margin for safety to tow a 7500-pound TT?
