The first thing to is forget that 10,000 pound number. Doesn't matter what brand, that is not based on towing thirty foot full height travel trailers. My payload was only slightly more than yours as I had a regular cab, 2wd, short bed. I towed a 28' travel trailer very well with mine. The main reason I upgraded to 2500HD was that I wanted the option of hauling a small truck camper at times and leave the trailer behind.
