What gauge/size chain is used on the turnbuckles?

I need to purchased some chain for my turnbuckles...what gauge should I use? I looked at 5/16" but wondered if maybe I should go to 3/8"??? PO used happijac tie downs on his truck but I installed t...

Home Depot sells stainless steel chain I think thinner than 1/4" but I love SS and used it for my Fastguns. I think it is rated for 2000 lb.
You might like it as well for your application.
Since my Fastguns had big hooks, I had to enlarge the end links with tapered rod.
Price on couple of feet will be marginal.
