Once again, the importance of a tire pressure monitor system on a towed vehicle is illustrated. If the temp increase didn't show up (which it likely would have), I guarantee that the lack of a wheel would have caused an alarm. :-)
I'm assuming on hohenwald48's post above, his TPM system wasn't installed on his jeep being towed. If it was, then something wasn't working right - lthough I have heard stories of tread separation happening but leaving the inner carcass intact. At the very least, if the TPMS had temperature monitoring I'm sure it would have alarmed.
