We discussed that as a possibility.
It is possible. I do think that it is highly unlikely that a swerve manuver could cause a good bearing to fail. They are put under a lot more stress when backing into my driveway. And from the looks of what is left, it ran for quite awhile before it came off.
So while I see your point of view...And it is possible... Nobody can say for certain. But if it had happened that close to home, I would think it would still be at least a little warm. It was stone cold.
A red hot chuck of iron will go stone cold in minutes when a 70 + mph wind is blowing on it :B
I do a fair amount of metal work. Welding, torching and grinding. That spindle is about 3" thick at it's widest point.
For it to go from red hot enough to actually bend, to stone cold without any water on it is going to take a lot of minutes.:B
