Similar thing happened to us a year ago, except we were being responsible and not going 75 MPH and didn't need to swerve about. The DW was driving when a pickup pulled alongside waving wildly. My wife rolled her window down and the driver shouted something about "smoking hot'. She thought he was flirting but then he shouted "wheel" so she pulled off the road. The right rear spindle of our TT had melted and sheared and the wheel was in the weeds about 20 yards back. The tire did not blow out and the wheel, surprisingly was not even hot. I ended up replacing the entire axle assy and both hubs. The bearings had been recently inspected and repacked by a service center that shall not be named, located at Haltom Road and Highway 121 in Haltom City, TX. We felt nothing unusual but the wheel obviously didn't come off until we pulled off the road but I don't know if we would have known had the wheel came earlier. I once had a blow out and the all that was left was the bead and I felt nothing. My son who was behind us had to call and tell me.
