Yes, something similar also happened with us. We had driven 350 miles from Branson in a 21' Starcraft years ago. I thought the trailer was pulling a little hard but I chalked it up to being in the hills. Brakes squealed a little when we went thru urban areas. Got home, everything seems to be ok. Two weeks later we left for a local weekend trip. 20 minutes out on the interstate and a car pulls along side honking and pointing back. Same deal, bearing melted and the entire assembly welded together.
Walking around your camper during rest stops, refueling, etc should be a must.
While on the road, you should pay attention for issues, like-
smoke, engine reving/hard shifting, noise, burning smells when slowing or stopped. 60 mph is about our top speed.
